Term 2 Week 9

We had another great week in Pre-K!

Our Super Simple Draw this week was a unicorn cupcake.

Teacher center time this week included:
Watercolor

Building a city

Matching upper and lower case letters

Making a map of the classroom

Sorted shapes

Made houses for our city in the hallway

We also added to our sight word wall and practiced counting to 30.

We played at the school playground, and some of the children decided they wanted to race.

We acted out solving some conflicts with friends. After I got the puppets out of the bean bag.

Next Thursday the 29th we have our field trip to go potato picking. Please send in gloves and a bag to bring the potatoes home. It's a good idea to also send rain boots for your child in a bag clearly labeled with their name. We want them to have regular shoes for the playground, but it might be a little muddy where they are digging potatoes.

Next Friday the 30th is our International Children's Festival. Your child may come in a costume or traditional clothes from their country or culture. Please make sure they can easily go to the toilet by themselves. Please also keep any toy weapons home, including swords, shuriken, or guns. These are never allowed at school. We will be having a special snack in the morning, so your child can bring cookies, cake, doughnuts, etc. This is a snack only for your child, as they are not allowed to share food in the classroom for safety, even if they are friends and share outside of school. Please help me by reminding them that this is a special treat for this day only.

As always, please message me or Ms. Maki if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Ms. Darby and Ms. Maki

Term 2 Week 8

Thank you to everyone for joining us for Sports Day! I appreciate your understanding with us only being able to have two adults per child. I am so proud of how Pre-K did with Sports Day this year. I hope you had as much fun as we did!

We made a new friend at the park. A praying mantis!
We also have three new caterpillar friends in the class. One is a butterfly and is already in its chrysalis. The other two are moths and are still growing.

We watched a little bit of Enishi's Sports Day.

We played outside everyday, including practicing climbing trees (safely!).

We made a map of Nagoya using our pictures from our neighborhoods. We tried to connect everything with streets that the children cut out during center time.

We will have a field trip next Thursday. Yay! We will be going potato picking. Please send in gloves, a bag for carrying the potatoes home, and 1000 yen. Please also make sure you bring your child to school on time that day (8:45) so that we can leave as early as possible. There will be no school lunch that day, so please send lunch, snack, utensils, and a drink bottle with a strap as usual.

International Children's Festival will be Friday October 30th. We will be doing some fun activities with the children in the classroom and the playroom. We will not be playing outside that day. Please send your child in either a costume or traditional clothes from their culture. Make sure that anything they wear they can easily remove themselves for toileting. Also please remember that weapons (even toy weapons) are not allowed at school. So if your child would like to be a ninja or samurai, please leave any swords, shuriken, etc. at home. Let us know if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend!

See you Monday!

Ms. Darby and Ms. Maki

Term 2 Week 7

We had a busy week!
Watching primary practice for Sports Day.

Measuring our height with markers.

Learning how to do the monkey bars.

Coloring.

Practicing counting with fingerprint paint leaves.

Exploring the world through Google Earth.

Playing with a new math center.

Doing some watercolor.

We explored maps by recreating Nagoya in the classroom.

We did some dramatic play by running a restaurant in the classroom, complete with wait staff and cooks.

And of course we practiced for Sports Day.

We will also be saying good bye to Leyre tomorrow. :(

As you know, tomorrow is our Sports Day. Please arrive at the school between 12:50 and 13:00. Please have your child wear their school uniform shorts and their tie dye shirt. Please have them use the toilet before you leave your house.

If possible please bring a folding umbrella you can keep with you. Otherwise, please place it in the umbrella racks outside the gym.

You will have a chance to take a quick photo at the entrance to the gym, and then your child will go into the playroom to put on their inside shoes and get ready. Please go upstairs to the gym, and keep your child's outside shoes and water bottle with you, they will have a chance to get a drink during the event by returning to you (only water in the gym please).

The following parents will have assigned seats on the wall with the doors when you immediately enter the gym- Shintaro, Moana, Airin, Laura, Remi, Rin, Julia, Melissa, Satsuki, and Bryan. Please find your chairs and sit down.

The following parents will have assigned seats on the wall opposite the doors, to the right when you enter- Ryosei, Rugved, Lisa, Liora, Pranitha, Leyre, Nona, Bing Chen, Helena, Kaho, Nona, and Leticia. Please find you chair and put your belongings down. You will have a second place on the floor in front of the doors to watch the dance. Please make your way to your child's name and sit down. After the dance, please return to your chairs.

There will be a parent event. We ask that only one parent per child joins the Paprika dance. Your children will run towards the middle at the end of the song. Please stay where you are.

After the medal ceremony we will take a group photo. Please stay in your seats. We will share the photos from the professional photographer with you.

We will release your children in small groups. Please exit the gym as quickly and safely as possible. Downstairs, please put your child's inside shoes against the wall.

Please remember to wear a mask at all times. The children will not be wearing masks as they are running around and it is not recommended. Ms. Darby will also need to remove her mask at times due to her asthma. But please keep yours on and maintain social distancing to the best of your ability.

If you have any questions, please comment below, so everyone can see the questions and answers.

Thank you so much! We are very excited to show you all the team work and cooperation in Pre-K this year!

See you tomorrow!
