We had Show and Tell this week. All children were given a chance to bring something from home to share with their friends. The children all seemed to enjoy it, and were very respectful of their friends belongings. We will have at least 3 more Show and Tell weeks throughout the year.
We had a fire drill, and everyone in Pre-K did an amazing job! They were silent in the halls and listened well to our instructions. The only challenge is that some of them walk very slowly. If possible, I encourage you to find ways to encourage more physical activity on the weekends, especially walking for longer distances. It will really help if we can resume field trips next term as well.
Ms. Maki then worked with them in small groups to make more Tanabata decorations.
During center time we also worked on identifying, copying, and communicating patterns. This is a challenging skill for some in Pre-K, but they will get better with practice.
We went to both playgrounds and the playroom this week.
Thursday we explored habitats. We created a city, jungle, ocean, and farm in the playroom. First we let the children start with little to no instructions. We will add to and explore the habitats more next week.
We also have a new pet, a caterpillar! This caterpillar will turn into a swallowtail butterfly. It started forming a chrysalis on Friday.
PE on Friday was challenging for many of our students. We started practicing racing to help the children prepare for Sports Day. Many of the children had a difficult time if they did not win their race, even though we were not keeping score. We will continue to work on their sportsmanship and enjoying friendly competition. They did enjoy our stretching and balance challenges.
We were very sad to say goodbye to Pedro this week. We wish him the best in the future!
A few reminders- Please remember to wash and return your child's cap every week.
If you did not send in the reading log this week, please do so on Monday.
Please make sure their snack is low in sugar. Good foods for snack are nuts, cheese, fruit, crackers, and yogurt.
The last day of term 1 is July 16th. We will have Parent Teacher Conferences on July 17th via Zoom. Please sign up through the email you will be receiving from administration. But if you ever have any questions or concerns, you do not need to wait for a planned PTC day or coffee hours. Please do not hesitate to send me a message.
Thank you and see you next week!
Ms. Darby and Ms. Maki
